ThisDay
ThisDay is an application for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch that tells you everything you want to know about today, or any other day: holidays, “today in history”, famous birthdays, etc.
Highlights include:
- Historical events for every day (more than 650 entries)
- National holidays
- Obscure holidays and observances
- Ancient Roman festivals
- Jewish holidays
- Movable Christian feasts (Easter, Shrove Tuesday, etc.)
- Full Chinese calendar support, with major and minor festivals, and year names in both Chinese and English (zodiac) form for any year
- Chinese solar terms
- Roman Catholic calendar of saints
- Famous and notable birthdays for every day (more than 1300 entries)
- Moon phase information
- Equinox and solstice times (earth seasons)
Most entries have links to Wikipedia for more information (you will need a network connection to browse to Wikipedia). Wikipedia entries open within the application for the best user experience.
Browse from day to day, or directly choose any day you'd like to see. Win trivia games, catch up on history a piece at a time, or find excuses to take a day off from work. Learn about the world.
There is no “information overload” here. My database is edited for interestingness, as well as researched and verified. There are several “this day in history” applications on the App Store that simply have their event lists copied and pasted, word for word, from Wikipedia. Don't pay for that kind of laziness. You can get that in a web browser.
