So, If Film Is Dead...

So Adobe has just released the Lightroom 3 Beta. Better performance, new features, yada yada yada. Whatever: the thing that made me download, install, and run it immediately was one particular new feature: film grain simulation. This feature is the only thing I've tried so far with the new Lightroom. It's not bad. It's not Tri-X, by a wide margin, but for digital, it's not bad. But it amuses me to no end – all these years, all this technology, all the mind-numbingly powerful computers, all to finally simulate film grain. I'll tell you a secret: I can do this...

(Almost) Abandoned America: Glenrio

The Route 66 town of Glenrio, Texas may look abandoned, but look again. The dogs barking threateningly are the first sign that reports of the town's abandonment may have been premature.
